(Saturday)
Rock River Valley Geological Society Quarry Field Trip
East of Janesvilles, WI
Meeting at the Quarry 9:30am.
Directions:
From the north, take I-90 around Janesville to the east and south and exit at Hwy 14/11 , Exit # 175.
Go east on hwy14/11 towards Delavan, After a mile , turn right (south) at the first stop light onto County J/Wright
Rd.
Continue across county road “O” and the railroad tracks next to the road. Go about 100 feet after the “O” stop sign
and turn right on the blacktop/gravel road to the quarry.
If you coming from another direction, just find your way to the Hwy 11/14 (Delavan Rd.) intersection and go south
on County Hwy J.
What to bring:
A chair or two and sturdy shoes are a good idea. Small pails or containers are needed to hold the treasures. You
don't need to climb or walk far because we are looking at piles of rock sorted by size. Climbing is optional for the
able bodied. A three foot long tool or rake will bring the desired rock down to you. Bring some lunch and drinks.
We usually share fruit and snacks and check over our discoveries during lunch or later. We can stay into the
afternoon. We plan to “pass the hat” for donations for a dinner gift certificate for the owner, his wife and two
daughters as our appreciation for welcoming us into the quarry.
