I joined a rock club (Heart of Wisconsin Gem & Mineral Society) 7 years ago. For the
first 2 years, I was like a sponge. There is so much knowledge in our club, a very
diverse group of folks. I was amazed by all the rocks that members were bringing to the
meetings cut and polished.
In the spring of 2003, during the planning of the annual collecting trip to South Dakota
for agates. I asked to tag along. I was just in awh of the beauty that was on the inside
these simple little rocks. Next thing ya know, I bought slab saws, trim saws, grinders
and just began to master the art of lapidary. I started out liking fluorite and soon found
a love for agates and jaspers. My favorite is Plume and Dendritic Agate and Morrisonite.
I really love to cut and polish Montana Moss Agate and Morrisonite.
I spent a lot of time in the shed (my husbands space) cutting cabs. By 2005 I had
cabbed so many cabs, I decided to teach myself wire wrapping. I also learned to facet,
make spheres and now I am casting and designing my own jewelry.
I was quickly out growing my rock space in my husbands wood shop. So we built me 22
x 26ft. rock room/garage. It was suppose to house my truck and rocks, but the truck
doesn't fit. Need I say more.
I spend a lot of time out there. Thus the reason I have named my site,
fromtherockroom.com There just wasn't a better name since every piece is from the
rock room.
I now have rock room workshop during the winter months for rock club members to
also learn the art of lapidary.
Hope you enjoy the site. I will always be adding to it.
Keep On Rockin'
